Academic Counselors Conference
Tuesday
& Wednesday, April 20 - 21, 2010
What is the Academic Counselors Conference?
Every
year, we invite a group of counselors to visit our campuses
for two days, spending time with our students, faculty, admission
staff, and with each other. Through these visits, counselors
gain a clear idea of the very distinct personality of each
member college and see how our consortium serves each college
community and forms a larger shared community. This collaboration
is designed to enhance educational experiences while retaining
the best of the member’s individual traditions.
Participating
campuses include Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Canton
and St. Lawrence University.
College
tours include:
•
An overview of the colleges and their academic programs.
• A walking campus tour (Casual dress encouraged.
Jeans and sneakers are acceptable).
• Opportunities to meet with staff and students.
• Answers to your questions about admissions policies
and procedures.
Here’s what past participants had to say about
their experiences:
“I
found all the colleges to be very hospitable. I am so glad
I came. Now I can discuss these schools knowledgeably with
my students and parents.”
“I
had a really good time. In addition to learning about the
four universities, I learned a lot about the American post-secondary
system. It was fabulous to meet counselors from all over.”
“I
have wanted to come to the North Country program for years.
I am so glad I took advantage of this program, as it was very
fun, well planned and well executed. I would recommend this
to any counselor who would like to learn more about the four
colleges in the North Country.”
What
are the costs?
Counselors
are here as guests of Associated Colleges. There is no cost
to you or your school to participate in the conference, other
than travel to and from our headquarters hotel in northern
New York. As our guest, your hotel accommodations (based on
double occupancy), tour transportation and meals will be provided.
What
is Associated Colleges?
Chartered
by the New York State Board of Regents in 1970, the Associated
Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley is an independent not-for-profit
educational consortium with four member colleges: Clarkson
University, SUNY Canton, SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University.
The
consortium was created as a regional multipurpose organization
to expand the number and variety of educational opportunities
for students, faculty and the community, to share resources,
to avoid needless duplication and to innovate through joint
action.
