Common Course opportunities for students
The director of Associated Colleges, the chief
academic officers and the presidents of SUNY Canton, St. Lawrence
University, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University have partnered
to provide opportunities beyond cross-registration that encourage
students to take a course that is not offered by their own
campus.
Courses that are needed across the consortium
have been identified and are being offered in a common block
of time during the weeks when all classes are in session.
This relieves the concerns students sometime face with cross-registered
courses that have different beginning and ending dates and
multiple vacation schedules.
There are seven common courses for Spring
2012, offering an advantage for students and helping contain
the cost of higher education. The courses offered do not diminish
what each college now offers but rather they are value-added,
enhancing the current course offerings on each campus.
The following classes are offered during
Spring 2012 only on Monday and Wednesday. Classes will be
held in either the late afternoon or evening during the weeks
when all classes are in session:
- Native American Oral Traditions (PCA 322)
at St. Lawrence
- Chinese 103 at SUNY Potsdam
- Spanish 102 at SUNY Potsdam
- Nuclear Physics (PH 447)at Clarkson
- Sustainable Theory and Practice: A Critical
Assignment (PHIL 405) at Clarkson
- Digital Photography (GMMD 201) at SUNY
Canton
- Introduction to American Legal System (LEST 101) at SUNY
Canton
Transportation will be provided for all Spring
2012 common courses. The transportation schedule will be posted
in mid-January 2012.
