Faculty Seminar Guidelines
NEW
GROUPS: The broad purpose of the faculty seminars is to bring faculty from
all four campuses together to exchange ideas, share scholarly interests, discuss
curricular issues, promote faculty development, advance individual research interests,
read works-in-progress, and on occasion to host a guest speaker. Their formats
vary with the needs and interests of each group as does the frequency of meetings.
Seminars are funded for an academic year. To
be eligible for funding as an Associated Colleges faculty seminar, the group should
include members from all four colleges, but three-college seminars are possible. - Guest
speakers should constitute an occasional rather than regular feature.
- Seminar
funds may not be used to cover the cost of meals for members but may pay for meals
of guest speakers (including faculty from Associated Colleges) and for light refreshments
at meetings.
Applications
must be made in writing and are due in the Associated Colleges
office on or before March 15. (A small reserve of late-start
funds is available for those who submit a request after this
deadline.)
Include
the following information in the letter of application: - Name
of Seminar
- Name(s),
phone number(s), department, and email(s) of the person(s) responsible for administering
the seminar.
- Description
of the organization and purpose of the seminar.
- Number
of meetings anticipated and a list of faculty who have agreed to participate.
- A
budget of projected expenditures for activities proposed (i.e., costs for duplicating
papers, expenses for speakers and meeting refreshments).
Proposals
should be clearly labeled Faculty Seminar Program and sent to Anneke Larrance,
Associated Colleges, 200 Merritt Hall, SUNY Potsdam, Potsdam, NY 13676 for mail
delivery or to larranaj@potsdam.edu
for email requests. For further information call 267-3331. A
committee from Associated Colleges will review the requests. RENEWED
FUNDING: I. Applications for renewed funding for an existing seminar should: - Identify
the seminar and the person(s) responsible for it, with phone number, department
affiliation and email.
- Describe
the general organization and purpose of the seminar and its continuing value to
members.
- List
activities and expenditures in the current academic year as well as average meeting
attendance.
- Outline
plans for the coming academic year.
- Provide
a budget for anticipated activities and expenses (i.e. costs of duplicating notices
and papers; expenses of speakers; refreshments for meetings).
- List
names of those members who regularly (rather than occasionally) attend.
II.
Seminar chairs are reminded of the general guidelines governing all activities
and expenditures: - To
be funded by Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, a seminar should
include members from all four colleges, but three-college seminars may be eligible.
- To
retain the emphasis on members' research, speakers from outside the area generally
constitute an occasional rather than regular feature of the seminar.
- Seminar
funds may not be used to cover the cost of meals for member participants; however,
they may pay for meals of guest speakers (including faculty from Associated Colleges)
and for light refreshments at meetings.
Letters
requesting renewal should be clearly labeled Faculty Seminar Program-Renewed
Funding and sent to Anneke Larrance, Associated Colleges, 200 Merritt Hall,
SUNY Potsdam, Potsdam, NY 13676 for mail delivery or to lalarranaj@potsdam.edu
for email requests. For further information call 267-3331.
